THE ROMANTIC VIOLA*

Caroline Lee, viola; Miles Graber, piano

CCE artistic director is joined by one of the leading collaborative pianists in the Bay Area Miles Graber to explore the romantic side of the viola.

Program will include Schubert “Arpeggione” sonata, Vaughn Williams ‘Romance’ for viola and piano, and Brahms sonata op.120 #2

Caroline Lee, viola

Violist and founder/artistic director of Community Concerts at Epworth Caroline Lee has performed throughout the US and Canada as an orchestral player as well as a chamber musician and recitalist. She is currently a member of the San Francisco Ballet orchestra and also performs with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony. Before relocating to the Bay area, Caroline was a member of the Kansas City Symphony for eight years and also performed regularly with the Chicago Symphony and Philadelphia Orchestra during their summer seasons. An active chamber musician, she has performed in Banff, Domaine Forget, and the International Musical Arts Festivals, collaborating with members of the Tokyo, Cleveland and Colorado quartets, as well as artists such as Eric Friedmann, Steve Dann,  Richard Stolzman and Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Along with her sister Aeri, Caroline formed the Lee duo and performs recitals throughout North America, championing less familiar viola repertoire. Caroline received her bachelor in music degree at the University of Michigan and her masters and Artist Diploma at Yale School of Music.

Miles Graber, piano

Miles Graber received his musical training at the Juilliard School. He has performed with numerous artists, including Sarah Chang, Cho-Liang Lin, Camilla Wicks, Axel Strauss, Mimi Stillman, Paula Robison, Zuill Bailey, Judith LeClair, Frederica von Stade,nd Christina Mok.  He has performed with numerous artists, including Sarah Chang, Cho-Liang Lin, Camilla Wicks, Axel Strauss, Mimi Stillman, Paula Robison, Zuill Bailey, Judith LeClair, Frederica von Stade, Christina Mok, Martha Aarons, and Lev Polyakin.  Mr. Graber has been associated with such organizations as New Century Chamber Orchestra, Midsummer Mozart, Oakland Symphony, Berkeley Symphony, Santa Rosa Symphony, Oakland Lyric Opera, Berkeley Opera, Opera San Jose, and California Symphony. His accompanying posts have included the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the San Domenico Conservatory, the Irving  M. Klein International String Competition, the Mondavi Young  Artist Competition, and Northern California Flute Camp. He is a member of the Alcyone Ensemble, Mira Trio, MusicAEterna, the Graham-Graber-Rose Trio, the Sor Ensemble, and Trio Foss.
